Trip Report By: Mahesh Rajpoot

It is about the thrilling birding expedition we delved into with Ron Ben Shalom to experience the captivating wilderness of Sultanpur, Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Ranthambore. Our birding colleague Mahesh Rajpoot ventured into these scenic destinations with Ron.

At Sultanpur National Park, they were greeted by an incredible array of birdlife. Among the remarkable species spotted were the exquisite Sind sparrow, the vibrant Orange-headed thrush, the melodious Tufted duck, White-tailed eagle Olive-backed pipit. When you visit keep your eyes peeled for the magnificent Booted eagle and Greater spotted eagle soaring across the skies.

Moving on to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, they timed the visit perfectly to witness its avian wonders. Mahesh informed me that this sanctuary is especially enchanting from November to February when migratory birds from far-off lands grace the park. They were thrilled to spot the Bar-headed goose, Red-crested pochard, Eurasian wigeon, Sarus crane, Delicate Prinia, and Striated babbler among the diverse avifauna.

Our next leg of the journey was to the Dholpur Wildlife Sanctuary, where they encountered the majestic Indian Skimmer, the beautiful Black-bellied tern, the striking Red avadavat, and the elusive Tawny pipit. The sanctuary's serene ambiance and rich biodiversity will leave anyone in awe of Mother Nature's creations such as the gharial and mugger crocodiles.

Finally, they embarked on a delightful safari in Ranthambore National Park, renowned for its magnificent Tigers. Amidst the dense foliage, they were fortunate to witness these regal predators in their natural habitat. Along with the Tigers, they also spotted Indian gazelles and various deer species, including a sloth bear and the marsh crocodiles.

Throughout the adventure, they were privileged to witness an extensive list of bird species, including the Indian scops owl, Brown fish owl, White-naped woodpecker, Indian courser, Indian vulture, Painted spurfowl, Painted sandgrouse, and River tern. Each sighting left them mesmerized by the beauty of these winged wonders.
