MAHSEER FISHING CORBETT
One of the fascinating narration's of
Jim Corbett in his book "Man Eaters of Kumaon" is about his
fishing for Mahseer (barbus tour), in a river which flowed through a
beautiful wooded valley. His descriptions fit well with the Ramganga valley.
Mahseer (tor putitora) is the main species available on the Ramganga / Kosi
rivers, besides the Silver and Black Mahseer. Goonch (bagaraus bagarius), a
fresh water scavenger is also another species that thrives in these rivers.
The Corbett Hideaway Anglers TourThough
the best fishing season is from February through April, fishing is permitted
from October onwards.
DAY 01:Arrive at
Corbett Hideway, Garjia for lunch.
Afternoon / Evening a guided nature
walk through the famous Garjia Devi Temple or a Jeep Safari to the Brijani
Forest for game viewing.
Return by sunset. Slide show on the flora and
fauna of Corbett. Overnight stay.
DAY 02:Early
morning drive to Ramganga river to commence fishing.
Lunch and
rest.- Continue fishing upto sunset.
Return to Corbett Hideaway -
special dinner. Overnight.
DAY 03:
Morning drive to another angling spot to fish.
Packed lunch will be
provided. The Ramganga river offers deep pools and fast flowing rapids for a
fishing stretch of 14 Kms. Fish upto sunset.
Return to Corbett Hideway.
Overnight.
DAY 04: Departure after
breakfast.
This itinerary can be extended by adding additional days for
angling, if desired.
Being a special interest sport, anglers have to
organise all equipment independently. Details of suitable tackle can be
provided.
