Birds of the Central Himalayas Tour

Himalayan Road Trip
Most of the trips would be done on the road with only a small part of trekking. Guests are given guaranteed seating with enough leg room as well as luggage room for comfort.

Short Walks and Hikes
Get a bit of exercise even as you enjoy the Himalayas with a moderate trek towards a hilltop.

Camping
Guests are advised to bring their own camping gear and travel light in order to keep up with the group. Dressing appropriately for camping like sturdy shoes and wearing sufficient clothing is also required.

Ever-changing Landscape
Visiting several locations in the 7-day journey, guests will be treated to different landscapes of nature as the tour goes after some of the most diverse species of birds in the Himalayas. The landscape constantly changes as the bird population varies.

Learn more about the local lifestyle of the Himalayas as the tour encourages connecting with locals within every area visited.

 

First Day: Travel from Delhi to Sonapani
Meals Covered: Lunch and Dinner
Travel Time: 8 to 9 Hours
Overnight Accommodation: The Himalayan Village

You will be met and taken to Sitla via road transportation. Tips, rules, regulations as well as SOP will be given to ensure that everyone makes the most out of the trip. Along the way, you will be able to view some of the most amazing mountains of this side of the country, climbing up towards the infamous Kumaon Hills. During the day, you will be presented with the opportunity to stretch your legs and engage in the following activities:

* Guided afternoon birding near a lodge location
* Spotting exotic birds such as the Blue Whistling Thrush, Red Billed Blue Magpie, Yellow Breasted Green Finch, Blue Capped Restart, and the Rusty Cheeked Scimitar Babbler.
Overnight stay would be at the comfortable Himalayan Village accommodation.

Second Day: From Sonopani to Birthi
Meals Covered: Breakfast and Dinner
Travel Time: 8 to 9 hours
Overnight Accommodation: KMVN TRH

While breakfast and dinner will be provided for, guests are given freedom in choosing their preferred lunch from the many restaurants accessible during the daily excursion. In between the scheduled driving time, guests can enjoy birding opportunities, this time viewing different species of birds that are unique in the area. This includes:

Third Day: From Birthi to Munsyari

Travel Time: 1 hour
Overnight Accommodation: The Last Frontier Resort

For the third leg of the journey, you will only have to suffer through one hour of travel to Munsyari. Stop over would be Kala Muni Top wherein a large quantity of bird species can be found including:

    • * Variegated Laughing Thrush
    • * Monal Pheasant
    • * Lammergeier
    • * Gold Eagle
    • * Himalayan and Eurasian Griffon
    • * Shaheen Falcon
    • * Snow Pigeon

 

    • In the afternoon, we will be visiting the bogs near Sirmauli which is a home to:

  • * Green shrike babbler
  • * Maroon oriole

 

Fourth Day: Trek to Khaliya Top
Meals Covered: Breakfast and dinner
Trek: 5 KM
Overnight Accommodation: Camping at Alpine Adventure Resort

Note that the trek would happen in two parts starting with a 4KM uphill climb combined with some very interesting bird watching. After sufficient rest, you will only have to journey 1KM to reach Khaliya Top. This is the most diverse portion of the whole adventure as the trek puts you really close into the birding landscape. All throughout, you will be given the opportunity to encounter some of the following birds:

Fifth Day: From Khaliya Top to Munsyari

Travel Time: Afternoon
Overnight Accommodation: Last Frontier Resort

Birding activities will continue for the rest of the morning and pack up in the afternoon. The return journey will occur for the rest of the day as you travel through new territory, this time seeing different kinds of birds such as:

  • Green-tailed sunbird
  • Scaly-breasted wren-babbler
  • Black bulbul
  • Rufous Sibia
  • Black Eagle
  • Blue-throated barbet
  • Himalayan woodpecker
  • Streak-breasted Scimitar Babblers

Travel time to the accommodation would take just a small part of the afternoon, giving you the chance to relax and refresh yourselves before dinner.

 

Sixth Day: Munsyari to Jageshwar
Meals Covered: Breakfast and Dinner
Travel Time: 7 to 8 hours
Overnight Accommodation: Van Serai

The travel time would be done in several parts in order to give sufficient opportunity for additional birding and lunch. During this last leg of the journey, you should be able to spot the following birds:

  • White capped water redstart
  • Pallas’s fish eagle
  • Grey-headed and lesser fish eagle
  • Grey-backed and spotted forktail
  • Scaly-bellied woodpecker
  • Red-breasted parakeet
  • Himalayan swiftlet
  • Stork-billed kingfisher
  • Barn swallow

 

Seventh Day (Last Day): Jageshwar to Delhi
Meals Covered: Breakfast
Travel Time: 9 to 10 hours
On the last day of the journey, you can feel free to relax early in the morning or go out for more birding. Others will also have the chance to visit different temples located in Jageshwar. Since the trip would take 9 to 10 hours, however, most of the 7th day would be spent driving to Delhi.

The tour ends upon arrival to Delhi.
